Large framed watercolor on paper attributed to architect Francois Debret ( 1777-1850), study of frieze probably for the Basilica of Saint Denis, Circa 1840. Unsigned.I bought this very fine series of architects drawings decades ago in Paris. Among them was a large set of large drawings like this one on the same paper signed in the 1830’s by the famous Francos Debret who was the official architect elected by French government to be in charge of the national monuments at the time until he was replaced by E Viollet le Duc in1846. This large set regarding the restauration of the stain glass of the Basillic of Saint Denis near Paris have been sold to the Musee des archives de France. This drawing is very similar in technique, size and quality of paper.

Notre Dame in winter
Luce painting Paris Notre Dame with figures sitting on a bench is an oil painting on cardboard painted circa 1910. Born March 13, 1858 in Paris, he became an apprentice to the wood engraver Henri-Théophile Hildebrand at the age of 14. Around 1980 he adopted the pointillism style of Seurat and Signac. his works are present in many museums.
The beautiful gilt frame is 17″5/8 21″

His brother Charles Louis Gribouval , actor and theater director, stage name Charles Granval, married the famous actor Madeleine Renaud in 1923. This painting show the painter sister in law holding his nephew Jean-Pierre Granval. Painting from the estate of Mrs Madeleine Renaud, signed ” Mon Oncle Auguste” (my oncle Auguste). Signed lower left ??? Martin , maybe Henri (1860-1943) as the first name paint is faded. Calligraphy of this last name can be found on some late paintings by the famous French impressionist painter.
This landscape is very similar to the surrounding landscape of his last house . After a decade of searching for an ideal home, Martin bought Marquayrol, a mansion overlooking La Bastide du Vert, near Cahors. He performed his best work in the new tranquil environment, and died there in 1943
